Campus Beat: The Super Bowl Edition

CSI students were asked about the upcoming Superbowl matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. There were a huge number of opinions about this, and most students asked were either Giants or Jets fans, so it was interesting what we found.

The first question was: Who do you think will win and why?

About 20 students said the Eagles, and surprisingly enough, some were Giants fans who said they hoped the Chiefs would win but thought that the Eagles will win. There was one Baltimore Ravens fan, Kyle Cicero, who had a big take on who was going to win:

“The Chiefs are going to win., Patrick Mahomes will be better prepared than Jalen Hurts,” said Cicero. “The Eagles had an easier schedule than the Chiefs during the season.”

One of the students who is a Giants fan, Jardon Smith, was one of those fans with a salty opinion of the Eagles, which of course was predictable seeing how the Eagles have been the hated rival for the Giants for years in the NFC East Division:

“I hate the Eagles,” said Smith. “So, the Chiefs are going to win, and they better win.”

The Super Bowl is a time of gathering, like Christmas for a football fan, and of course there is food, so we also asked what the go-to food was for watching the event, and of course wings were number one on everyone’s list except Kyle Cicero, he had a different take on his Superbowl snack:

“Not only do we have wings, but my mom makes a special dip,” said Cicero. “It is made with cheese, jalapenos, cream cheese, and ground beef.”

Did you know that Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest day for food consumption, with Thanksgiving being the biggest. Fans spend more than $50 million on food during the four days prior to Super Bowl. It is estimated that 14,500 tons of chips will be eaten during the game. Sixty-nine million pounds of guacamole will be consumed with some of those chips.

To wash all this food down, an estimated 51,713,004 cases of beer will be sold for the Super Bowl, making it the eighth largest day of the year for beer consumption.

So, whether you eat wings, chips, or heroes, we hope you enjoy the game this weekend and enjoy the halftime show and commercials. It is also not every year where we get a day off after the Super Bowl so for those of you who are hard-core partiers or Eagles or Chief fans and need to sleep in since the game starts at 6:30pm EST, then you have an extra day off to not do anything, unless of course you work outside of CSI then we at CSI Today feel for you.

On that note, and I normally do not put myself into my articles, but since it is Campus Beat with Vinny Masocol, I am going to add my opinion on this game, after all I am a student. The Eagles will win this game because during the season they were the more complete team. So, the final score will be Eagles 20 and the Chiefs 17. Sorry Giants fans, you are just going to have to hear Eagles fans for another year brag about how they are better than you and the rest of the NFL.
