Northwell Health has appointed Dr. Glenn Jacobowitz as the director of ambulatory vascular surgery for its Western Region, encompassing Manhattan, Staten Island, and Westchester. In his new role, Dr. Jacobowitz will oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and maintain the clinical standards for office-based procedures. He will focus on program expansion by building referral networks and identifying growth opportunities. Additionally, Dr. Jacobowitz will implement quality assurance measures, conduct case reviews, and integrate advancements in vascular surgery to improve patient care.

Dr. Jacobowitz brings extensive experience from his time at NYU Langone Health, where he spent over 25 years as an attending surgeon, eventually becoming chief of vascular and endovascular surgery. He also served as chief of vascular surgery at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. His academic contributions include serving as the Frank J. Veith, MD, professor of vascular and endovascular surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and currently as a professor of surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

With over 165 scientific papers to his name, Dr. Jacobowitz has significantly impacted areas such as thoracic endovascular aortic repair and carotid artery disease recurrence in younger patients. He has also authored 22 book chapters, exploring topics like ultrasound diagnostics for peripheral artery aneurysms. His work has reached an international audience, including lectures on iliac vein stenting and the use of magnetic resonance angiography.

His research efforts have included serving as a principal or co-principal investigator in several clinical trials, examining device efficacy for fluid buildup and AI-associated ultrasound in diagnosing deep vein thrombosis. Dr. Jacobowitz has also held notable positions in medical societies, having served as president of the New York Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Venous Forum, which awarded him the title of Distinguished Fellow. Currently, he serves as a senior examiner for the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Jacobowitz's academic journey began at Princeton University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a biology degree. He earned his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery and a fellowship in vascular surgery at NYU Medical Center, where he was an executive chief resident. He is board-certified in both general and vascular surgery.
