Applications are now open for scholarships offered by Senator Andrew Lanza and The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators. These scholarships will be awarded during the Annual Italian-American Day in Albany.
Both academic and athletic scholarships are available, each worth $3,000. They are intended for eligible residents of the 24th Senate District who are either current college students or high school seniors entering college.
To qualify for the Academic Scholarship, applicants must have a grade point average of 85 or higher, demonstrate good conduct, show dedication to pursuing and completing higher education, be active in community and extracurricular activities, reside within the 24th Senate district, and demonstrate financial need. Those applying for the Athletic Scholarship must also participate in organized sports. Students may apply for both scholarship opportunities.
The Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is a bipartisan group composed of members from the New York State Senate and Assembly. It aims to promote and celebrate contributions made by the Italian-American community across various fields such as literature, arts, architecture, and politics in New York State.
Applicants will be evaluated based on their grade point average, conduct, interest in higher education, community service involvement, extracurricular activities, and financial need.
Scholarship winners will be announced in April and contacted directly. Winners should plan to attend the award ceremony at the Italian-American Day Celebration on May 19th in Albany.
It is not necessary to be of Italian-American heritage to apply for these scholarships. Applications must be submitted by March 30, 2025 at 5 PM.
