Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, members of the bipartisan Women's Caucus, and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum hosted a Women's History Month celebration with actress Lynda Carter at the U.S. Capitol. The event highlighted efforts to transfer land on the National Mall to the Smithsonian Institution for constructing a women's history museum.
Malliotakis is working with Reps. Judy Chu, Monica De La Cruz, Debbie Dingell, Emilia Sykes, Mike Carey, and Brian Fitzpatrick on bill H.R. 1329. The bill has strong bipartisan support with over 90 cosponsors. Key provisions include allowing the museum's placement within the National Mall reserve and facilitating land transfer to the Smithsonian Institution.
The legislation also requires biennial reporting for Congressional oversight but does not require new federal spending from taxpayers.
"When WonderWoman first aired 50 years ago, women were still fighting for many basic rights," said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis. "While great progress has been made, it is important we recognize and preserve women's contributions to our nation's history."
Senator Klobuchar added, “Women have shaped every chapter of our nation’s history... I am proud to celebrate the women who have forged inspiring paths.”
Rep. Monica De La Cruz stated, “By providing the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum with a dedicated space on the National Mall in Washington, DC, we are permanently honoring their stories and contributions.”
Rep. Judy Chu remarked that America’s story is incomplete without recognizing women's accomplishments: “That’s why I’m working...to secure the rightful spot on the National Mall that the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum deserves.”
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick emphasized that "America’s story is incomplete without the women who built it." He supports placing the museum on the National Mall as a testament to trailblazing women.
