The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) has announced the election of Representative Nicole Malliotakis from New York's 11th district to its Board of Directors. This board is made up of Members of Congress, executive leadership from Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, and small businesses. These leaders contribute their expertise and resources to advance CHLI's vision of supporting the Hispanic community by preparing and connecting current and future leaders.
"As we saw in November's election, Hispanic Americans are more engaged in politics than ever before, and just like many other Americans, they are concerned about inflation, crime and national security," said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. "As the proud daughter of a Cuban refugee, it’s an honor to be elected to serve on CHLI's Board of Directors where I can advance my work to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community and advocate for common sense policies that protect our freedoms and promote greater economic opportunity for all."
CHLI Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen expressed her support for Malliotakis' appointment: "We are honored to have Congresswoman Malliotakis join CHLI’s distinguished Board of Directors. As a respected voice in the House of Representatives, she will significantly enhance CHLI’s mission of developing future leaders and advancing thoughtful policy solutions through bipartisan dialogue."
In 2024, Malliotakis received the CHLI Leadership in Public Service Award for her contributions to public service and dedication to advancing opportunities for future leaders. Her mother emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1959. As an immigrant's daughter and a U.S. House Representative member, her leadership supports CHLI’s advocacy for economic progress and social responsibility.
CHLI was founded by Members of Congress and corporate leaders in 2003 as a non-profit organization focused on promoting economic progress within the Hispanic community while emphasizing social responsibility and global competitiveness. The organization aims to foster awareness of diverse thoughts among Americans with Hispanic or Portuguese heritage through internships, fellowships, scholarships, and leadership conferences.
