Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis announced today that she has secured $1.5 million to upgrade the fire alarm system at the NYCHA South Beach Houses on Staten Island.
The project will involve identifying, removing, and replacing all existing fire detection system components, both operable and inoperable, in accordance with current NYC Fire Code. The scope of work will be confirmed within the budget pending engagement with stakeholders, a detailed site visit, and conditions assessment. The upgrades aim to ensure up-to-date equipment is in place to address any potential fire, health, and safety concerns at the location.
"I'm pleased to have secured this federal funding to allow NYCHA to make these necessary upgrades to South Beach Houses’ fire alarm system to improve public safety, reduce hazards and give residents peace of mind that their homes and families will be protected," Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis said. "I look forward to continuing to work with our partners at NYCHA and HUD for more opportunities to improve the infrastructure and quality of life at South Beach and other NYCHA residences."
"Making upgrades to this fire alarm system is representative of NYCHA’s commitment to providing safe and affordable housing to New Yorkers," said NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt. "We'd like to thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for recognizing this need and her work in allocating funds for this significant investment in fire safety at South Beach Houses."
