(NEW YORK, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today released a statement criticizing LatinoJustice's decision to appeal the rulings that deemed noncitizen voting unconstitutional in New York City elections. Malliotakis expressed her disappointment, stating, "LatinoJustice's notice of appeal attempting to overturn rulings that declared noncitizen voting unconstitutional by both the New York State Supreme Court and Appellate Court is a slap in the face to New Yorkers and legal immigrants who followed our rules, became U.S. citizens, and earned their right to vote in our elections."

The Congresswoman emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the election system and highlighted the impact of the overturned law on the voices of citizens. Malliotakis urged the city not to invest further taxpayer money in the appeal process and instead focus on addressing the pressing needs of New Yorkers. She stated, "I urge the City to not waste more taxpayer money to join this appeal and instead focus on the needs of hardworking New Yorkers who are facing so many quality of life and public safety issues."

It is worth noting that Malliotakis and her mother, a Cuban refugee and legal U.S. Citizen, played a significant role as plaintiffs in the lawsuit that led to the striking down of the 2022 law.
