Malliotakis Secures $2.9 Million for College of Staten Island STEM Lab

(STATEN ISLAND, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) has announced the allocation of $2.9 million in federal funding for the College of Staten Island (CSI) STEM Labs. The funding is intended to support various projects at the College, including equipment upgrades and the construction of new facilities to enhance STEM education.

In a statement, Congresswoman Malliotakis expressed her satisfaction with securing the funding, stating, "I'm proud to have secured this funding to help the College of Staten Island continue to upgrade their STEM facilities and purchase new state-of-the-art equipment so our students can learn in the best environment possible."

The funding will be utilized for a range of enhancements at CSI, with specific allocations for various departments. This includes upgrades to the Nursing Simulation Lab, Biology Labs, Chemistry Labs, Engineering Labs, Physics Labs, and the creation of a Math instruction lab for students.

Dr. Timothy Lynch, President of the College of Staten Island, emphasized the positive impact of the funding on the institution, stating, "Funding received from Representative Nicole Malliotakis’ $2.9M appropriation will allow for new construction, the addition of state-of-the-art equipment, and upgrades to our science and technology labs that will further enhance the student experience, learning, and research opportunities within these majors."

CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez also praised the allocation, noting that it will significantly benefit STEM education at CSI and contribute to expanding career opportunities in the field for students. He stated, “The $2.9 million secured by Congresswoman Malliotakis for the College of Staten Island will provide a significant boost for CUNY’s efforts to elevate STEM education and expand career opportunities in those fields for our students.”

The funding secured by Congresswoman Malliotakis is expected to have a lasting impact on STEM education at the College of Staten Island, furthering opportunities for students in various science and technology disciplines.
