(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today released a statement applauding the passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, the first tranche of bills to fund the federal government for the remainder of FY24.

Malliotakis highlighted the efforts of House Republicans in reducing spending and maintaining fiscal responsibility, stating, "Despite having the slimmest majority in recent history and Democrat control over the Senate and White House, House Republicans were able to fulfill our commitment to reduce spending by rejecting $100 billion in funding requests from the Biden Administration, cutting non defense spending for the first time in almost a decade, and adhering to good government reforms initially passed under the Fiscal Responsibility Act."

In addition to these measures, Malliotakis emphasized the positive impact of the funding bills, noting, "Additionally this package fully funds veterans' health care programs, bolsters our national security, and delivers tens of millions of dollars to Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn for the NYPD, educational initiatives, local community organizations and sewer projects."

Acknowledging that the package may not be flawless, Malliotakis expressed her support for the overall direction taken, stating, "While this package isn't perfect, it's a responsible step in the right direction by keeping our government open and functional for the American people while cutting wasteful excessive spending."
