(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today released the following statement regarding her vote in support of H.R. 7888, the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act, to reauthorize FISA and implement significant reforms to protect Americans' privacy and stop abuses.

"As a New York City member in a post-9/11 world, I believe that it’s critically important for our intelligence agencies to have the tools and resources necessary to stop terror plots and keep Americans safe," expressed Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.

She further stated, "With our borders wide open thanks to President Biden, I was not going to vote with the socialist squad to hinder or delay counterterrorism efforts, especially when individuals on the terror watchlist have been caught in our interior, Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal released thousands of al Qaeda and ISIS fighters in the Middle East, and our allies are at war."

Congresswoman Malliotakis highlighted, "Not only does this bill strengthen our national security, it includes significant reforms to protect Americans’ privacy, such as restricting political appointees from conducting queries, establishing a zero-tolerance policy with accountability standards and criminal penalties for query violations, and requires the FBI to submit regular reports to Congress regarding their internal disciplinary standards for those who abuse the system."

She concluded by emphasizing, "With the FBI sounding the alarm about the potential for coordinated terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, Congress should be doing everything it can to secure our homeland from all threats, which is why I voted to extend FISA today."
