Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis expressed her satisfaction with the New York State Court of Appeals' decision to uphold the State Supreme Court's ruling against noncitizen voting in New York City elections. In a statement, Malliotakis emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of the election system, stating, "There is nothing more important than preserving the integrity of our election system, and in today’s age, the government should be working to create more trust in our elections, not less." She underscored the significance of voting as a sacred right exclusive to United States citizens and criticized what she perceived as unconstitutional and reckless measures that could diminish the voices of American citizens.
Malliotakis also pointed out the potential consequences of the law in question, highlighting that it would have allowed individuals in migrant shelters to participate in New York City elections after 30 days if they had obtained work authorization.
