New York State Senator Andrew Lanza has unveiled a new scholarship opportunity for residents of the 24th District, as reported on February 6, 2024. The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators has opened applications for four $3,000 scholarships, comprising two academic and two athletic scholarships.

Senator Lanza emphasized the significance of this opportunity, stating, "This is an excellent scholarship opportunity for high school seniors and college students in the 24th District who have worked hard, distinguished themselves from their peers and intend to pursue higher education." He further added, "With college costs continually rising, this is a chance to lessen the financial burden that is a concern for so many young people and their families. I encourage eligible students in my district to apply."

Applicants must meet certain criteria, including having a grade point average of 85 or higher, being actively engaged in community service and extracurricular activities, and demonstrating financial need. For those applying for an athletic scholarship, involvement in organized sports is also required. Notably, candidates do not need to be of Italian American heritage to be eligible for these scholarships.

The application deadline for these scholarships is set for Friday, March 15. Recipients will be announced in April, with the winners being recognized at a ceremony in Albany. The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators, a bipartisan organization of state Assembly and Senate members, aims to promote and celebrate the state's Italian American community.
