Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has announced that her office is now accepting applications for the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. The competition is open to high school students in New York's 11th Congressional District.
The Congressional Institute sponsors this annual event to promote artistic talent across the nation and within each congressional district. Since its start in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated, with over 10,000 pieces of art exhibited.
Artwork submitted must be two-dimensional and can be no larger than 26 inches in height and width, and four inches deep including the frame. The weight of any framed piece should not exceed 15 pounds. Acceptable mediums include oil, acrylics, watercolor paintings; colored pencil, pencil, ink drawings; lithographs; silk screens; block prints; mixed media works; computer-generated art; and photographs.
All entries must be original in concept and execution. They cannot violate U.S. copyright laws by copying existing photos or images created by others. Entries must also adhere to the House Office Building Commission's policy which prohibits exhibits depicting contemporary political controversy or sensationalistic subjects.
Students need to submit their artwork to Malliotakis' Staten Island or Brooklyn District Office by Friday, April 25, 2025. A Student Information and Release Form must accompany each submission. Students should contact either the Staten Island Office at 718-568-2870 or Brooklyn Office at 718-306-1620 to arrange a drop-off time.
The first-place winner will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and will be invited to Washington, D.C., for an exhibition opening celebration. The second-place winner’s work will hang in Malliotakis' Washington office for a year while third and fourth-place winners’ artworks will be showcased in her Staten Island and Brooklyn district offices respectively.
