(NEW YORK, NY) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) released the following statement regarding Reps. Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman's push for Congestion Pricing which would charge commuters an additional $23 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street, totaling more than $5,000 per year and potentially more for Staten Islanders who already pay a toll to connect to the rest of the city.

"With their push for Congestion Pricing, Representatives Nadler and Goldman are supporting more congestion and pollution being shifted to neighboring communities in New York City. While many of their constituents would not be financially impacted by Congestion Pricing, middle-class Staten Islanders who already pay a toll to connect to the rest of the city will be forced to pay an additional $23 to commute to work, school, or for play. While Representatives Nadler and Goldman claim to care for working-class New Yorkers, the policies they support will harm them the most. I urge the representatives to join our bipartisan calls to have Congestion Pricing further examined with a full and thorough Economic Impact Statement so we can determine the complete impact this first-in-the-nation program will have after the initial Environmental Assessment showed pollution shifting to the outer boroughs. It's elitist to want to price less-affluent New Yorkers out of their part of our city."
