Senator Andrew Lanza, representing Staten Island’s 24th District and a member of the Republican and Conservative parties, recently addressed issues ranging from Medicaid advocacy to rising energy costs in a series of posts on his social media account.
On March 9, 2026, Lanza wrote about his meeting with Janet Magnuson from Richmond Home Services and Stella Orton Home Care Agency during SEIU 1199 advocacy day in Albany. He stated, “Pleasure to talk with Janet Magnuson from Richmond Home Services and Stella Orton Home Care Agency as she visited Albany today for SEIU 1199 advocacy day supporting fair Medicaid rates to protect our vulnerable populations.”
The following day, Lanza turned his attention to concerns over increasing utility bills. On March 10, he posted, “If you opened your energy bill this month and thought, ‘How am I supposed to pay this?’ you are not alone. And it is not your fault. Your gas. Your heat. Your electricity. They are rising fast.” In a subsequent post made moments later on the same date, he added, “And according to the state’s own experts at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, it is about to get much worse because of the Governor Hochul energy law known as the Climate Leadership and Protection Act (CLCPA).”
Lanza has been active in legislative initiatives beyond these recent statements. As Senate Deputy Minority Leader and committee member for Rules, Judiciary, Ethics and Internal Governance, and Cities 1, he has advocated for community improvements such as school upgrades and park expansions on Staten Island (official website). His legislative record includes measures aimed at protecting against domestic violence and strengthening crime victim rights.
Lanza’s comments come amid ongoing debates in New York over healthcare funding and energy policy changes under state law.
