Senator Andrew Lanza, who represents Staten Island’s 24th District in the New York State Senate, posted a series of statements on social media addressing local community issues and national observances.
On March 7, 2026, Lanza wrote, “Today, I joined my fellow Staten Islanders to stop Mayor Mamdani from siting a homeless shelter in the worst place it could possibly go!” This comment was made amid ongoing debates regarding the placement of homeless shelters within Staten Island neighborhoods.
Two days later, on March 9, 2026, Lanza recognized the contributions of emergency response volunteers: “This month, we highlight and recognize the members of the American Red Cross. Your dedication, bravery, and sacrifice to aiding those in times of disaster, crisis, and conflict does not go unnoticed. Thank You. To find out more, visit: https://t.co/nvE9Spt5jo”
Later that same day he marked Women’s History Month with another post: “Happy Women’s History Month. We recognize the impact that women have and will continue to make in our world and the future trailblazers who pave the way for generations to come.”
Lanza has advocated for improvements in his district such as school upgrades and park expansions (official website). He is affiliated with both the Republican and Conservative parties and has held leadership roles including Senate Deputy Minority Leader. His committee assignments have included Rules, Judiciary, Ethics and Internal Governance, and Cities 1. In addition to legislative work on community infrastructure and public safety—including efforts related to domestic violence prevention—Lanza also commemorated June 21 as Judicial Independence Day after establishing Staten Island’s 13th Judicial District.
