Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, who represents New York’s 11th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed concerns about the future of Haitian immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) working in nursing homes and highlighted ongoing discussions on healthcare programs and animal testing.
On April 15, 2026, Rep. Malliotakis wrote: “We’ve heard from nursing homes in our district that will lose skilled and dedicated nursing staff if TPS is not renewed. These are Haitian immigrants who are working, paying taxes and contributing to our economy and fulfilling a healthcare need. To strip them of their status and”
The following day, she reiterated her position by stating: “To strip legal status from Haitian immigrants who are working, paying taxes and contributing to our economy and fulfilling a healthcare need at a time when our healthcare system continues to face workforce shortages would be uncompassionate and misguided.” This comment comes amid ongoing concerns over staffing shortages in the U.S. healthcare sector.
On April 17, 2026, Rep. Malliotakis also reported participating in discussions on broader health policy issues: “I joined @HHSGov @SecKennedy at @waysandmeansgop to discuss our shared commitment to eliminating animal testing as well as the importance of the World Trade Center 9/11 Healthcare, mental health & women’s health programs.”
Malliotakis has represented New York’s 11th District since 2021 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly for a decade. She was born in New York City in 1980 and currently resides in Staten Island. Her educational background includes degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
