Northwell Health’s cardiothoracic programs have been recognized for excellence by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). According to the latest STS quality report, all four hospitals under Northwell Health with cardiothoracic programs received three-star overall quality ratings. This is the highest rating available and signifies that these programs are among the top in the nation. The analysis covered 952 adult surgical programs across the United States and Canada, evaluating data from January 2022 to December 2024.
Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital (SABHH) at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) in Manhasset stood out by achieving a three-star quality rating in all five traditional surgical categories. Additionally, it excelled in a newly introduced sixth category known as multiprocedural. This category includes isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery combined with multiple mitral valve replace/repair (MVRR) procedures, with or without coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The STS employs a multiprocedural composite measure to assess performance across these varied procedures.
