Nicole Malliotakis, a U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 11th district since 2021, used her official social media account to criticize Democratic leadership over government shutdown impacts and to call attention to the actions of political opponents.
On October 20, 2025, Malliotakis stated, “.@POTUS Trump stepped in & saved the Women, Infant, Children (WIC) program during the shutdown but SNAP will soon be depleted if Schumer & Senate Democrats don’t stop the shenanigans!” She attributed potential funding issues for food assistance programs to Senate Democrats.
The following day, on October 21, 2025, Malliotakis posted about New York Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani. She wrote, “When Zohran Mamdani is not palling around with socialists and communists, he’s hanging out with radical extremists like this imam who called the USA ‘garbage,’ our law enforcement ‘terrorists,’ and defended the convicted plotters of the 1993 WTC bombing.”
Later that day, she addressed economic consequences of a government shutdown: “The #SchumerShutdown is causing a $15 billion hit to our GDP each week as small businesses struggle without federal inspections, contract payments, or SBA-backed loans. @SenSchumer & his fellow Democrats should simply extend the funding levels they voted for 4x before…”
Malliotakis has represented New York’s 11th District in Congress since defeating Max Rose in 2021. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 through 2021. Born in New York City in 1980 and currently residing in Staten Island at age 42, Malliotakis holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
