Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis of New York’s 11th District called on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats to support a resolution aimed at keeping the federal government open. In a statement released today, Malliotakis emphasized that the House of Representatives has already passed a measure to avoid a shutdown.
“This afternoon, the Senate will again vote on a resolution to keep the government open. The House has done its job—now it’s up to Senate Democrats to do theirs and decide whether our military gets paid, our national parks stay open, and government agencies keep serving Americans. Senator Schumer needs to end his partisan antics and deliver seven Democrat votes to obtain the 60 necessary to pass the same bill he negotiated in March 2024 and extended three times (September 2024, December 2024 and March 2025). Over the past four years, Congress has approved 13 bipartisan continuing resolutions to avert a shutdown, and there’s no reason this time should be any different,” said Malliotakis.
On September 19, 2025, the House approved a temporary funding extension that would maintain current spending levels through November 21, 2025.
Nicole Malliotakis has represented New York’s 11th congressional district since replacing Max Rose in 2021. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 until her election to Congress. Born in New York City in 1980, she resides in Staten Island. She holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
