Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis of New York’s 11th district has issued a statement expressing gratitude to former President Donald Trump for his role in restoring federal funding for the NYPD’s counterterrorism programs. The funding, which supports intelligence gathering, bomb squad operations, surveillance cameras, officer training, and specialized equipment, had previously been at risk of being cut.
“New York remains the nation’s top terror target, and cutting this funding was never acceptable. I spoke with President Trump on Wednesday, and within 48 hours this critical funding was fully restored, supporting the NYPD’s counterterrorism initiatives including intelligence gathering, bomb squad operations, surveillance cameras, officer training, and specialized equipment,” Malliotakis said.
She continued: “It’s well known that President Trump loves our NYPD and FDNY and understands the grave threats facing our city. The men and women of the NYPD have consistently stopped dangerous plots, and this funding ensures they will continue to have the tools and resources needed to keep our city safe. Federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must be thoughtful when making critical and impactful decisions including where to direct federal funds. For them to cut counterterrorism funds from New York City was a terrible idea and now it was rightfully reversed.”
Malliotakis has represented New York’s 11th Congressional District since 2021 after succeeding Max Rose. Before her time in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2021. She was born in New York City in 1980 and currently resides in Staten Island.
