Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis expressed approval of a recent decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which rejected a plea deal that would have allowed Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-defendants to avoid the death penalty.
“I applaud today’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals to rightly reject an outrageous plea deal that would have allowed the 9/11 mastermind and his accomplices to escape the death penalty,” Malliotakis stated. “This ruling confirms what we’ve been saying all along: the Biden Administration never should have considered such a deal in the first place.”
Malliotakis emphasized that Americans have waited over two decades for justice, noting that families who lost loved ones and first responders deserve full accountability from those responsible for orchestrating the 9/11 attacks. She called for setting a trial date and pursuing the death penalty to ensure accountability.
In 2024, Malliotakis collaborated with 9/11 Families & First Responders Call for Justice in advocating against plea deals for 9/11 terrorists. The previous year, she joined Texas Senator Ted Cruz in urging Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to eliminate any possibility of a plea deal without the death penalty.
