Nicole Malliotakis, a U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 11th district, has recently shared insights on social media regarding the financial implications for New York City taxpayers concerning migrant-related issues. Her tweets reveal data she obtained through a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request.
On May 5, 2025, Malliotakis disclosed that “After 1.5 years, I finally received a response to my Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request and it turns out NYC taxpayers paid to house 3,214 migrant criminals arrested between January 2023 and October 2024.” This tweet highlights the timeline and number of individuals involved in the FOIL request findings.
Following this revelation, Malliotakis further emphasized her concerns by sharing that ” The data we received from NYC in response to our FOIL request on crime committed by migrants living in taxpayer-funded hotels.” This tweet underscores her focus on the criminal activities associated with migrants housed at public expense.
Later that day, Malliotakis expressed alarm over ongoing issues related to immigration and crime in New York City. She stated: “NYC is continuing to harbor illegal immigrants who are foreign gang members and repeat offenders! This after I exposed NYC housed 3,219 migrant arrestees for more than 16,000 crimes that occurred in or near migrant shelters, with more than 11,000 for major felony offenses.” This post provides additional statistics about criminal activities linked to migrants within city shelters.
Malliotakis has been serving as a U.S. Congress member since replacing Max Rose in 2021. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2021. Born in New York City in 1980 and currently residing in Staten Island, she holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
