Nicole Malliotakis, U.S. Representative for New York’s 11th district and former member of the New York State Assembly, has recently addressed issues surrounding the federal government shutdown and counterterrorism funding in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
On October 3, 2025, Malliotakis criticized Senate Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown, stating: “It’s BASIC math! Today, Senate Democrats FAILED to provide the 7 votes needed to reopen the government. Only 3 Democrats voted with Republicans to end the #SchumerShutdown.”
The following day, she highlighted a development in federal security funding: “$187M cut in New York counterterrorism funding reversed after bipartisan appeals to Trump @amNewYork” (posted October 4, 2025).
Later that same day, Malliotakis expressed concern about military personnel affected by the shutdown: “Over 1.3 million military men & women across the country, including 61,000 here in New York are not getting paid during the #SchumerShutdown. This is wrong & Senate Democrats can END it by just voting for the same, exact bill they previously helped pass 4x.” (October 4, 2025).
Malliotakis has served as a congresswoman since replacing Max Rose in 2021 and previously represented Staten Island and Brooklyn neighborhoods in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2021. Born in New York City in 1980 and residing in Staten Island, she holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
