Nicole Malliotakis, U.S. Representative for New York’s 11th district, used her official social media account to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on federal assistance programs in early November 2025.
On November 3, Malliotakis addressed the impact of the government shutdown on SNAP benefits, stating: “Due to the #SchumerShutdown, SNAP payments were set to stop November 1, however a federal court has now allowed the use of USDA contingency funds so partial benefits can resume as early as Wednesday. We’re relieved that SNAP benefits will resume, but this never should have”.
Two days later, on November 5, she criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for the length of the shutdown: “Congratulations @SenSchumer… your legacy will now be manufacturing the longest shutdown in American history. End the shenanigans & vote to reopen our government.”
Malliotakis continued her commentary on November 6 by referencing historical outcomes related to socialism: “The easy way would have been picking up a history book to learn how socialism has failed miserably everywhere else.”
Malliotakis has represented New York’s 11th district in Congress since replacing Max Rose in 2021. She previously served a decade in the New York State Assembly and resides in Staten Island. Born in New York City in 1980, she holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
