Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has issued a statement recognizing Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s years of service as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York and welcoming Archbishop Ronald Hicks as his successor. The announcement follows Pope Leo XIV’s acceptance of Cardinal Dolan’s resignation after he reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 earlier this year.
“I congratulate Cardinal Timothy Dolan as he begins this next chapter after 16 years of faithful service to the Archdiocese of New York. Over the years, I’ve come to know Cardinal Dolan well. All who have been in his presence know what a positive, joyful, faithful individual he is. My Catholic constituents and I will miss his guidance and good humor, and I am grateful for his leadership and commitment to New Yorkers. I wish him well in his retirement and look forward to working with Archbishop Ronald Hicks as he assumes leadership of the Archdiocese of New York, serving 2.5 million Catholic New Yorkers,” Malliotakis said.
The Archdiocese serves Catholics throughout Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and neighboring counties such as Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam through nearly 300 parishes.
Nicole Malliotakis currently represents New York’s 11th district in Congress, a position she has held since 2021 after succeeding Max Rose. Before her time in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2021. Born in New York City in 1980, Malliotakis resides in Staten Island and holds degrees from Seton Hall University and Wagner College.
