(NEW YORK, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) has reiterated her call for the resignation of Columbia University President Nemat Shafik due to the University’s handling of antisemitic protests on campus. Malliotakis expressed her concerns in a statement, highlighting the need for immediate action.

“Columbia University moving to virtual learning today out of safety concerns for students and faculty only further proves that President Shafik is unable to stop the antisemitic activity on her campus and keep her students safe,” Malliotakis stated. She emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “The gross antisemitism being displayed against Jewish students at Columbia University is horrific, unacceptable and the reason I introduced legislation to strip federal funding from colleges that blatantly allow antisemitism and fail to hold those responsible accountable.”

Malliotakis, a member of the bipartisan House-Knesset Parliamentary Friendship Group, has been actively involved in advocating for measures to combat antisemitism. She has supported legislation providing military assistance to Israel, efforts to pressure Iran, and federal security grants for the local Jewish community. Additionally, Malliotakis has introduced bills such as the CAMPUS Act, aimed at preventing federal funding to institutions that support antisemitic behavior, and the ‘No Visas for Antisemitic Students Act’, which targets foreign students engaging in antisemitic activities in the United States.

In her statement, Malliotakis underscored the responsibility of universities to protect students from discrimination, harassment, and violence, emphasizing that President Shafik’s failure to address these issues warrants her immediate resignation.
