Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has announced a legal victory in New York State’s highest court regarding the 2021 Non-Citizen voting law in New York City. As a lead plaintiff, Malliotakis expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I’m pleased that we prevailed in our final round in court and have stopped New York City’s Non-Citizen voting law once and for all! The state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, has sided with us and two lower courts in striking down this unconstitutional law.”

Malliotakis emphasized the importance of maintaining election integrity, saying, “There is nothing more important than preserving the integrity of our election system, and in today’s age, the government should be working to create more trust in our elections, not less. The right to vote is a sacred right given only to United States citizens.” She urged lawmakers to cease supporting measures she described as unconstitutional.

The Congresswoman and her mother Veralia Malliotakis were lead plaintiffs in this case. They were joined by other local officials. Previously, Malliotakis had pointed out that if implemented, the law would allow individuals residing in migrant shelters to vote after 30 days if they had work authorization.
