Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R,C-Staten Island) commemorated Vietnam Veterans Day by honoring Staten Island local Dr. Vincent Joseph Maligno for his exceptional service and dedication. Dr. Maligno, a distinguished veteran and former Air Force member, was recognized for his unwavering commitment to duty, selfless service, and ongoing dedication to the community.

Described as a veteran who epitomized the enduring spirit of sacrifice and resilience, Dr. Maligno's contributions during the Vietnam War era were highlighted. Apart from his military service, he also made significant impacts in the community, notably as an educator and later as the principal of Mother Cabrini High School.

Dr. Maligno's involvement with various veteran organizations and community initiatives, such as the Andersen-Lagno VFW Post 5090, Watkins-Kellett American Legion Post 277, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 421, showcased his dedication to supporting and honoring veterans. Additionally, his commitment to his Italian heritage and community was evident through his service as a trustee for the Sons/Daughters of Italy in America Father Capodanno Lodge 212.

"We must remember and acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices made by our veterans who have valiantly served our country. The greatest traits of patriotism are embodied in their unselfish dedication to preserving our way of life and defending our liberties. We honor those courageous men and women who answered the call of duty on this Vietnam Veterans Day. We can take pleasure in the freedoms and rights we value because of their bravery and sacrifice. Never forget their service and let us never stop working to make sure the sacrifices they made are respected and remembered for many years to come," emphasized Pirozzolo.

Underlining the importance of honoring and remembering the sacrifices of veterans, Pirozzolo's words resonated the sentiment of gratitude and respect towards those who have served the nation selflessly.
